Business School Gifted $7 Million
The university’s School of Business is set to receive a gift of $7 million by Board of Trustee Member Jim Thomas and wife Sally, for the construction of the new business building. Career Fair Introduces Opportunities
UNCP’s career fair on Nov. 2 featured a wide variety of jobs and organizations showcasing job opportunities and teaching career-readiness skills. Students, faculty and local company representatives came together in the University Center Annex to witness the promotion of healthy work ethics. Lumbee River EMC, OneMain Financial, Waffle House, McDonald’s, FoodCorps and other organizations each promoted internships and both part-time and full-time job opportunities for students.
Sexperts Discuss, Educate Students
The UC Lounge was crowded with students seeking answers about their sexual health from a panel of “sexperts” (sex experts) on Nov. 8. from 7 – 8 p.m. The evening included discussion, information, prizes and gifts. The panel of five sexperts were made up of students, as well as representatives from the nursing department and Planned Parenthood. Student Films Showcased at Movie Fest
The University Center Annex held a Campus Movie Fest on Friday, Nov. 3 to celebrate students’ achievement in filmmaking by viewing their short movies. Friends and families of the students were in attendance. The top 16 films were viewed also by judges who voted on the best film of the evening. The awards of the night included jury awards, the silver tripod awards and the audience choice awards. The jury award winners were “Here,” “The Warning,” “Decisions” and “Of Trauma.” T
Native Foodways Feeds Students
A staggering number of students attended the Ninth Annual Honoring Native Foodways Festival at the UC Annex, as well as celebrating National Native American Heritage Month. The festival gave students a taste of traditional Native American food which was provided and served entirely by volunteers. Shuttle Still Active
The Braves Shopping Shuttle continues to run on campus every week to take students to their shopping destinations. Students were concerned that the service had been shut down because they did not see the white buses for an extended time, but the service schedule has merely been modified. Braves Shopping Shuttle operates on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and transports students from campus, to the local Wal-Mart and Food Lion. Pickup is at various locations on camp
