In honor of black history month, the Black History Club hosted an event, the New Negro Movement, with guest speaker Dr. David Matthew Walton on Feb. 20 at the James B. Chavis University Center. The event’s theme was ‘intelligence, education, scholarship, transforming and stepping away from the stereotype’. For almost 40 years, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke has offered 19 Greek Life organizations on campus. The first fraternity established was Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia in 1971. Fraternities and sororities participate in service opportunities that are mission-based or support their philanthropy, such as working at a soup kitchen, raising money for breast cancer education and awareness, reading books to elementary school children and hosting events that raise awareness
UNCP hosted its annual “Meet the Greeks” event on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. in Givens Performing Arts Center (GPAC).
At 7:30 p.m., GPAC was filled with students, parents and staff who were excited to meet the various fraternities and sororities and learn more about what the Greeks represent and what they do for the community.
