Braves Finish Indoor Season Strong

The men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out their first official indoor season with new school records and top five finishes Feb. 25 at the Kent Taylor Invite.     

 

Three school records were shattered on the women’s side of competition.     

 

Junior Olivia Lowman broke a nine year old school record in the 800m run crossing the line at 2:25.17 for a third place overall finish.     

 

Teammates Lowman, Angelica McNair, Lakezia Sykes and Briana Taylor won the 4x400m relay finishing with a new school record of 4:09.16.     

 

Onya Daye was the last to record a new school record for the Lady Braves by upping her own record in the weight throw with a hurl of 14.78m for a seventh place finish.     

 

Jaynell Brown earned third place in the shot put with a toss of 13.26m.     

 

Deja Burks took fourth place in the high jump (1.47m), while Lakezia Sykes earned fifth in the long jump (4.90m).     

 

Senior Kyndal Boykin rounded out the Lady Braves top five finishes of the weekend to place fifth in both the 800m run (2:29.37) and 3000m run (11:40.24).     

 

Kory Jones steered the men’s team for a first place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.90m, he also earned the second highest mark in the high jump (2.01m).     

 

Brandon Bulla took the fourth place spot in the long jump with a leap of 6.73m.     

 

Senior Joel Johnston earned the runner-up position in the 1-mile run to finish with a time of 4:34.95.     

 

The 4x400m relay team made up of Christian Ceccato, Johnston, Nathan Pollard and Blaine Thomas took home third place with a time of 3:55.43.     

 

Evan Guinn earned third place in the weight throw (13.93m), while teammate Nathanael Stainback took fifth place (13.40m).     

 

Jamel Jefcoat led the Braves in the triple jump (3rd, 13.23m), while Michael Zimmerman followed in fourth place with a leap of 12.47m.     

 

Freshman Logan Ward closed out the top five finishers for the Black and Gold in the 3000m run (5th, 9:13.10).     

 

The Black and Gold will be back in action to open up the outdoor season at home March 4 to host the Braves Classic.
