Cross Country Earns 6th & 7th at DII Showcase
Both the men and women’s cross country teams went down to Nashville, Tennessee for the NCAA II Showcase Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene.
The men competed in the opening race, with the women’s race coming after. High temperatures were a problem throughout the day, posing a issue for the runners.
Senior Lea Tardanico led the Lady Braves cross country team to a sixth place finish Sept. 24th in the 5k, while Logan Ward controlled the men’s pack in the 8k steering them to a seventh place finish.
The top four of the Lady Braves held a tight pack, leading the whole race for the first mile before falling off late.
Tardanico notched a 15th place finish with a time of 19:48.2.
Freshman, and California native, Michaela Reynolds crossed the line in 20:08.9 to grasp 22nd place overall.
Senior Olivia Lowman was the last of the Lady Braves to earn a top 25 finish, logging a time of 20:14.7.
Kristin Cain (20:42.1, 35th), Catherine George (22:14.4, 66th), and Brenna Sifford (23:21.1, 82nd) rounded out the finishers for the Black and Gold on the womens side.
Ward earned a top-20 finish in the 8k earning a time of 27:39.0. Tim Sigmon followed two places behind the sophomore runner at 22nd, crossing the finish line in 27:40.5.
Brothers, Jonathan (28:20.1, 38th) and Matthew Martin (28:36.5, 49th) both attained personal best times in the competition.
Curtis Haynie tallied 54th place in 28:54.6, while Andrew Tedder (29:49.2, 70th), rounded out the men’s finishers for the Black and Gold.
The Braves will be back in action Oct. 7th in Charlotte for the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens.
