Plans in Motion for Homecoming

On Sept. 23, the UNCP Homecoming Planning Team met to finalize details for Homecoming Week. The festivities are scheduled to take place from Oct. 17-22.

The week will kick off on Monday, Oct. 17, with UNCP Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to dress in UNCP gear on this day. The annual SpiritFest is tentatively slated to take place that evening in the courtyard between Pine and Oak residence halls. The Hawk’s Nest will be half off for those dressed in school spirit. .

The discount at the Hawk’s Nest will remain throughout the week for appropriately dressed patrons.

My UNCP Day will take place on Tuesday. Members of the campus community can represent any organization, major, team or other group that they are associated with. The Shanghai Acrobats will be performing at the Givens Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

The theme for Wednesday will be Black and Gold. The Pembroke Activities Council is hosting the Freestyle Funny Comedy Show at 7:00 p.m.

Homecoming Week will continue on Thursday with UNCP Super Fan Day. Extravagant school spirit is encouraged as the Homecoming Parade and subsequent bonfire will take place later in the day. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. with the bonfire kicking off two hours after.

Students who present their BravesCard at the event will receive their homecoming shirt.

On Friday, which is Homecoming T-Shirt Day, many exciting events will be happening around campus. The 50th reunion for the class of 1966 will be celebrated starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Dining Room. The HHP Glow Run will begin at 6 p.m., with check-ins starting at 5:00 at Grace P. Johnson Stadium. The Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet is scheduled to begin at 6 as well.

The highly anticipated Purple Xperience, a Prince tribute concert, is on Friday night at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for UNCP students, $16 for faculty and staff, and $26 for alumni. General admission tickets range from $21 to $31.

The week concludes on Saturday with a number of events involving athletics and campus organizations. The UNCP football team will kick off against Catawba College at 2 p.m. The men’s and women’s soccer teams will also be hosting North Georgia in back-to-back games. The women will start at 5 p.m., and the men will follow at 7:30.

An NPHC Step Show is planned for 8 p.m. in GPAC. The final event of the weekend is the Braves Affair, a party for alumni at Pine Crest Country Club in Lumberton. Tickets for the event will be $10.
