Volleyball Loses First Two PBC Games

The UNCP volleyball team faced off in two matches over the weekend against USC Aiken and Lander.

In both contests the Lady Braves fell in straight sets.

USC Aiken

The Black and Gold’s volleyball team was on the road for their first conference game of the season against USC Aiken and lost in straight sets at the Convocation Center on Sept. 16-17.

The game marked the Braves fourth straight loss, and pushed the Pacers winning streak to five in a row. UNCP dropped the sets by the scores 25-11, 25-12, 25-11.

The Black and Gold suffered through a season low -.130 hitting percentage and conceded 13 service aces to the home team.

USC finished with 32 kills to the Braves 12 and registered 66-37 advantage in digs.

USC Aiken out blocked the Braves seven to two and tallied a total of 32 assist, compared to 11 by UNCP.

Caroline Pridgen led the way in kills for UNCP with four, while Alicia Paeplow had a solid all-around outing with three kills, two assists and five digs.

Cayce Bell finished the game with a team high 13 digs, and Bailee Jones led the way in assists for the away squad with nine.

Julia Forster led the Pacers with nine kills, with Taylor Stratton finishing right behind her with eight.

Emily Teelon was the team leader in assists with 22, and also led the way in aces with four.

Lander

The Lady Braves had a negative hitting percentage for the second straight match and fell in straight sets 25-13, 25-17, 25-11 to Lander at Horne Arena.

The contest marked the Braves fifth straight loss, while the Bearcats are going in the opposite direction with their 10th straight win.

UNCP had a hitting percentage of -.009 in the game, after posting a -.130 hitting percentage in their last outing against USC Aiken.

The Black and Gold conceded 11 service aces and tallied 40 kills. Lander hit .257 along with 40 total kills.

After taking the first set, Lander held a 15-9 lead in the second, only to rally back with four straight points to put the game to 15-13.

Lander responded with 10 of the final 14 points to take the set, and held the Braves to just 11 points in the final set to complete the sweep.

Alicia Paeplow led the Braves with five kills, along with six assists and three digs.

Katelynn Leach had a team high .182 hitting percentage, and Bailee Jones added in eight assist to go along with 14 digs.

Madelyn Ashwell and Josephine Yang both tallied 11 digs as well for UNCP
