Trump Claims the White House

Donald Trump has become the 45th president. Trump won by securing more than 270 electoral votes needed to win against his opponent Hillary Clinton.
Election night was neck and neck for both candidates. Most states had results for Trump and Clinton between 45-49 percent, which was a close call for most of the night and into the morning.
The election ended with Clinton conceding to Trump.
“Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division. We have to get together. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, for which there were a few people,” Trump said at his victory speech following his win.
“I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help. So that we can work together and unify our great country.”
This election has been a back-and-forth brawl for the position of commander in chief. Prior offenses have been hurled from both sides, but in lieu of all the negativity surrounding both candidates, Trump has won the vote.
This campaign started back in 2015 with Ted Cruz announcing he was running for president. Clinton launched her brand in April, which was followed shortly after with Bernie Sanders. Republican Jeb Bush and Trump did not start campaigning until June 2015. And other candidates followed.
The race to the White House has been a long and exhausting one. Compared to other countries, which have laws dictating their campaign period, the U.S. doesn’t have an official campaign season.
Essentially anyone running in the elections can start campaigning when they want to.
For Mexico their law states that they can only campaign for 147 days and in Japan it is only 12 days. Other countries, like Brazil and the U.K., do not allow candidates to purchase TV ads.
Trump’s 100 Days
A president’s first 100 is a list of the things the candidate has promised to tackle in his/her first 100 days.
Here is what Trump has promised to do:
• Cancel Obama’s executive order on climate, energy, immigration, overtime and retirement savings
• Renegotiate trade deals with NAFTA, withdraw from TPP
• Deport criminal immigrants living in the country illegally
• Federal hiring freeze, except for military, public safety and public health
• Multitrillion-dollar tax cut
• Authorization for border wall
• Repeal Obamacare and replace it with Health Savings Accounts and interstate insurance marketing
• Place tariffs on companies that move offshore
• Expand the military
• Supreme court picks in Scalia mold
• Impose Congressional term limits
While Trump has won the presidential election, he will not officially take office until after the beginning of 2017.
Trump’s inauguration is schedule for Jan. 20.
