Lady Braves Narrowly Top PBC Foe Lander

The Lady Braves basketball team moved up (12-4, 7-2 PBC) after their ‘Neon Night’ 63-60 win over Lander Jan. 18 at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The crowd dressed in neon for support of the Lady Braves, this was the fifth victory in a row for the home team.

The Bearcats led way going into the locker room with a five-point lead, 35-30 over the Lady Braves, but the Black and Gold outscored Lander 33-25 in the second half of the match up.

After being down for most of the game, the Black and Gold changed pace with two minutes remaining to maintain the lead for the rest of the match up.

The Lady Braves came out on top 63-60 after a layup by Jonissa Monley lighted the way. In the last 22 seconds Ebone Stevens put the nail in the coffin with a three pointer.

The visiting team had plenty of opportunities to shoot back, but missed three 3-pointers and a free throw.

Senior Jonissa Monley sunk a season high 26 points for the Lady Braves to lead the field, while teammate Brianna Naham registered 14 playing all 40 minutes.

Lander's Mylea McKenith earned the second most points of the game with 19. The Bearcats racked up 53 bench points and 19 second chance points.

The Black and Gold finished with an impressive 45 percent from the floor, compared to Landers 29 percent.

This PBC matchup saw four ties and nine lead changes.
