Freshman Silus Kipkoech has blasted off his first few weeks of being a Brave.
The Kenyan native smashed a 40-year-old school record in the 5,000m run Feb. 19 at the Kent Taylor Chapel Hill Invitational.
Jeanna Cube broke her third school record in two weeks of competition, while the Lady Braves distance medley team also earned a school record title.
First place finishes were claimed during the meet by Olivia Lowman, Quincy Ridley and Javon Graham.
Along with the new school record, Kipkoech also crushed his own personal best time crossing the line in 14:46.57 for a first place finish, he also clutched fourth place in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:53.55.
The last 5,000m record was set in 1977 by Gary Henry, a cross country and track and field national champion.
Logan Ward placed third in the 5,000m run behind Kipkoech with a time of 16:04.66.
Graham bested his personal best time in the 60m hurdles for a first place finish and time of 8.32 seconds, followed by Christian Ceccato (8.34 seconds) in second place and Michael Powell in third (8.45 seconds).
Ridley earned top honors in the 400m dash with a time of 51.43 seconds.
The men’s 4x400m relay team crossed the line in second place for an overall time of 3:28.49.
In the one mile run A.J Sayers-O’Neill earned fifth and a personal best time of 4:41.41.
In the field portion of the meet there were a lot of runner-up spots taken by the Braves.
Kory Jones earned second place in the high jump (2.00m) and the long jump (6.97m).
Devonte Norman took fourth place in the high jump (1.85m) and fifth in the long jump with a personal best leap of 6.59m.
Jamel Jefcoat captured fourth in the triple jump, 13.67m.
In the men’s shot put Nathanael Stainbeck led the Black and Gold with his 13.08m throw for second place, followed by Jonathan Kistner (third, 12.61m) and Evan Guinn (fourth, 11.21m).
Guinn took home the runner up position in the weight throw (15.40m), while teammate Stainback saw a personal best throw (third, 15.40m) and so did Kistner (fourth, 13.11m).
Cube is on a role with another school record and top honor finish in the women’s 60m run (9.14 seconds), while senior Lowman also took home first place in the 800m run crossing the line in 2:27.67.
Cube also clutched second place in the high jump with a leap of 1.58m.
The women’s distance medley relay team captured a new school record of 4:10.39, the team was made up of Kristen Cain, Jacques Tucker, Lowman and Lea Tardanico.
In the 60m dash finals Jada Wallace captured second place and a new indoor personal record of 7.85 seconds, followed by Kaelyn Francis (third, 7.94 seconds).
Erica Williams landed in second and third place in the long and triple jump. In the long jump with a new PR Williams went 5.05m and in the triple 10.77m.
Lyric Troy trailed Williams in both events, in the long jump (fourth, 4.92m) and in the triple jump (fifth, 10.58m).
In the throwing field Andrea Garcia led the Lady Braves with a second place finish in the shot put with her 11.25m hurl and new personal record. Kelsi Sheldon earned fifth in the event, also collecting a PR with a 10.16m throw.
Leanna Jacobs placed fourth in the weight throw and had a new personal best of 13.30m.
This was the last indoor meet of the season for the Black and Gold, next up is the Braves classic March 3 to open up the outdoor season.
