The UNCP volleyball team remained winless in PBC action as they dropped a contest to the Georgia College Bobcats on Oct. 27.
In the first set, both teams gained early momentum. The Bobcats scored the first seven points, but the Braves cut the lead to just one as they scored the next six points. Sophomore Madelyn Ashwell added one of her eight kills during that brief run.
A service error from teammate Anna Heinz stopped the run for the Black and Gold. The Braves made up for the error with Ashwell’s second kill of the night, making the score 8-7. The teams traded rallies from that point, but ultimately the Bobcats took the first set 25-18.
The Black and Gold showed strong effort in the second set despite falling behind at 2-4. The Braves scored four straight points with kills by Aquia Jones and Amber Tyndall. A service ace by Bailee Jones and a Bobcat error put the Braves ahead 6-4.
The Bobcats evened things back up thanks to consecutive errors from the Braves. The game went back and forth, with neither team having more than a one-point lead in the early stages of the set. With the Braves leading 13-12, the Bobcats scored six straight to taking a commanding 18-13 advantage. The Bobcats eventually won the second set 25-16, using four consecutive points to put the Braves away.
The third set started off similar to the first set with both teams scoring early. Neither team let the other take an advantage, as the game stayed tight for most of the game. The Bobcats rallied for four straight points late in the contest and eventually finished with a 25-16 triumph.
Ashwell recorded eight kills on the night for the tenth time this season.
Amber Tyndall registered seven kills of her own for the Braves. Tyndall also added a solo block and a block assist.
Senior Cayce Bell recorded a team best 14 digs. Jones finished in double digits in assist with 10.
