The UNCP wrestling team concluded their two-week road stint away from Lumbee Guaranty by facing off against the Lions of Emmanuel College on Feb. 2 at the Jean Yawkey Center in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
The Braves dominated their host on the home mat 37-9 thanks to the Black and Gold winning their last seven bouts following an early Lion’s lead. The win marked not only triumph over an Eastern College Athletic Conference opponent, but it was also their third victory in their last four dual meets.
Freshman Nick Daggett ignited the night of his team’s dominance with an overwhelming 21-6 tech fall victory at the 125-pound weight division. However, the Lions would take their first and only lead of the day with a pair of pin and decision wins at both the 133-and 141-weight classes.
Redshirt junior Tyler Makosy kicked off the Braves’ consecutive matchup win streak with a commanding victory via a first period pin at the 157-pound weight class in just under a minute and a half.
The Black and Gold did not let up and would go on to record a trio of dominant individual performances. Junior Faris Teia recorded the team’s second pin on the night at 184 in just over two minutes.
Brandon Sloop and Andrew Colborn would both achieve tech fall wins at 175 and 285 by a combined score of 32-1 to add on the team’s blowout lead.
