Top 10 Things to Do in Pembroke

Visit the Museum of the Southeast American Indian

The museum hosts many historical and culturally relevant items from Southeast American Indian tribes. It is located on the first floor of Old Main on campus. The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Visit the Pembroke Recreation Complex

This recreation center holds a walking trail, several outdoor tennis courts and sand volleyball courts. It is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Go to the Pool

The indoor pool is located in the Jones Health center on campus.

Go Shopping

The mini downtown Pembroke area holds many locations for a fun shopping trip. These include: Ella & Co. Boutique, open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Swag City, open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday; Maxway, open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Eat for Cheap

Pembroke is a town enriched with many fast food options, here are a few places where you can get a meal for $5 or less: Taco Bell, open from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Sunday and until 2 a.m. on Friday; Burger King, open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.,

Monday through Sunday and open late until midnight Friday and Saturday; KFC, open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday; Bojangles, open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Try a Local Dining Experience

Linda’s Restaurant: a quaint dinner where you can get southern home comforts. Linda’s Restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Cozy Corner: a small, family-run cafe where you can get breakfast and lunch.

Cozy Corner is open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Papa Bill’s Ribs: a great place for a college student to get BBQ. Papa Bill’s Ribs is open from Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Frans Place: A nice, family-owned cafe with the “best catfish around” in Pembroke.

Fran’s place is open from 5:30 a.m. until about 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sometimes the restaurant closes at 2 p.m. on Fridays for church obligations.

Hammock or Chill near the Water Feature

There are ample trees for hammocking, or if you prefer to chill on a blanket, there are nice grass hills near the water feature just outside the Mary Livermore Library

Go skating at Roller World Skating Rink

Roller World is a Braves Card preferred member and offers hours of rolling fun right here in Pembroke. Roller world is open Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m., Friday from 7:30-10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m. and 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Check out Movies or Books from the Library

UNCP has a nice on campus library where students can check out movies and books for free with their Braves Card. The movie selection is pretty good for a college campus and the free price sure beats having to buy from a red-box.

Enjoy Game Night at the Hawks Nest

Located on UNCP’s campus in the University Center, the Hawks Nest offers bowling, pool and arcade games. The Hawks Nest is open from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 3-11:30 p.m.
