I Am Boss Holds Third Annual Fashion Show

I Am Boss held its third annual “Bold and Beautiful” fashion show on March 21, inspiring young women to appreciate their curves.

The event encouraged everyone to be more body positive to others and to themselves. The hostess of the evening was Nikki Jacobs, a plus-size model from France. The night began with a dance routine from the Just Dance Studios dancers to a Nicki Minaj medley.

Then, the models came out to walk in their first line of clothing: “Professional Wear.” Cato Fashions sponsored the clothing worn for the event. The models strutted their stuff in business pants, cardigans, blazers and heels.

There was a short break as Jacobs chose a winner for the first raffle prize of a $25 gift card to Ella and Co. The second line of clothing was casual wear. The women dressed to embody the words “Sunday Brunch,” each model showing a different side of brunch.

For example, some models wore sundresses and heels, others wore cute blouses and jeans. In addition, there was another break as the dancers performed a tap dance to a Bruno Mars piece. Another raffle for a $25 voucher to Food Lion followed then the ladies were ready to take the stage again.

The third category was “Ladies Night.” Five men from Brother to Brother joined the models on the catwalk. In this walk, the models were decked out in boots, heels or flats, along with flowing dresses, oversized button down shirts or jeans. Following the walk, another raffle winner was drawn and won $25 cash.

Afterward, there was a break where the audience was informed of an upcoming masquerade charity ball, also sponsored by Cato Fashions. Following the break, three audience members were selected to perform a walk off.

The three audience members strutted down the center aisle and showed attendees that anyone can model with a little confidence. The last Cato Fashions-sponsored look was “Date Night” and the models walked down the runway hand-in-hand with men from the Brother to Brother organization.

Some of the ladies chose bold dresses with heels and others chose cardigans and jeans. Each look was fashion forward and reflective of the model’s own style. The last raffle was called and one lucky winner received a $25 gift card to Ruby Tuesday.

Then the ladies came out to model swimwear from their private collections. Lastly, the ladies modeled lingerie from the Lion’s Den and two of the models performed a short dance.

The night ended with the dancer performing a routine to a Cardi B medley and a thank you to all the sponsors. After the show, the models got a chance to speak about how they enjoyed their involvement with I AM BOSS.

“I am really into body positivity and I found this really inspiring being able to represent as the only Hispanic girl in the show,”Libni Sarai Subdias said. “I was so nervous, I overcame today,” model Milawa Sellers said. Although Cato Fashions sponsored the clothing for the event, each item was returned after the show.

“No unfortunately not, Cato’s just provides the outfits for us to walk in, but we do not get to keep them,” Subdias said. After the show, Mrs. Robin Johnson, founder of I Am Boss, spoke about the purpose of the Bold and Beautiful fashion show.

“One of the main parts of our mission statement is to build confidence and poise and I think we were successful,” she said. She also commented on how the show builds community. “The girls all bond with each other at the end,” Johnson said.
