Students, Residents Encouraged to Evacuate Ahead of Florence

Earlier today, the university sent out an email to students urging them to evacuate campus ahead of the potential devastation that Hurricane Florence is projected to inflict on Robeson County.

The email stated:

"Because we are in an area that will likely receive significant impacts from Hurricane Florence, students should leave campus today. If you have no safe place to go, you must notify Housing and Residence Life using this link or in person by 12 p.m. today. If you need assistance traveling to the airport or a bus station, please contact your Community Director."

Additionally, a Brave alert was sent out with the following link www.uncp.edu/florence, echoing the same information as the email: students should evacuate or prepare to seek shelter in preparation of the coming storm.

"Shelter locations in Robeson County will open at 12 p.m. on Thursday at the following locations: Purnell Swett High School, Lumberton High School, St. Paul’s High School and Fairmont Middle School," both sources stated.

According to WPDE.com, Robeson County has been placed on a voluntary evacuation order. This means that residents are not required to evacuate the storm by officials, but are encouraged to use their own discretion.

In addition, as stated on the Robeson County Administration/Government Facebook page, a county curfew has been set "to begin at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday September 13, 2018 from sunset to sunrise and will remain active until further notice."
