Braves Show Promise in Up-and-down Cross Country Season

Season Opener at Mount Olive


Sophomore Silus Kipkoech and senior Logan Ward both finished within four seconds of each other snatching the two top spots in the Men’s 8K race. Freshman Skylar Moreno finished third place for the Braves in the Women’s 6K.


The Braves obtained runner-up at the Mount Olive Twilight. Riley Axe placed 10th, Molly McCann placed 12th, Sam Badami placed 13th and Michaela Reynolds placed 15th for the women’s team. Jarett Arabie placed 14th, Matthew Martin placed 15th, Ean Ormsby placed 16th and Holden Newman placed 19th, snatching most of the top 20 spots for the men’s team.


Jaguar XC Invitational


The meet was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.


UNG Invitational


Freshman Joshua Chepkesir, Kipkoech and Ward all finished in the top five for the men’s team, awarding them in the runner-up position.


Moreno earned fifth place for the women’s team. Chepkesir finished the 8K with a time of 25:07.66, almost twenty seconds before his teammate Kipkoech. Ward was fourth with a time of 25:56.43. The Braves finished second out of 11 teams.


Great American Festival


Moreno beat her personal best time for the 5K run, tallying in at fourth place.


Arabie achieved a new personal best in the Men’s 8K run finishing in 17th place.


Overall, the Braves finished in fourth place.


Bobcat Invitational


The Braves showcased their determination and tenacity with Kipkoech and Chepkesir, once again, finishing at a close time - a difference of 0.6 seconds. Both demonstrated their record breaking skills, leading the men’s team to top honors.


Moreno chartered the way for the fourth time in the season, beating her previous time with a new record of 23:45, which placed the women’s team in eighth place out of 18.


The Braves finished first, showing that black and gold does shine bright.
