Oct. 30 marked the last home game of the season for the UNC Pembroke Braves volleyball team.

They had a 3-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan’s Warriors on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.

After a weekend of losses on the road, the team made a decent comeback in the comfort of home at Lumbee Guarantee Bank Court.

In the beginning of set one, the Braves struggled to find their balance on the court and allowed the Warriors to gain a seven-point lead. With freshman Shannon Skryd’s quick reactions and senior Amber Tyndall’s swift kills, the Braves pulled through and won the set 25-21.

Set two was an improvement with the team beginning to play with their usual intensity.

Both freshmen Ashley Caesar and Skryd began to perform well at the net with blocks, while junior libero Anna Heinz, kept a tight hold on the back line.

Skryd also performed well while playing the back line making many quick last-second digs. The Braves won the set 25-19.

Set three seemed to be the most difficult for the Braves.

The Warriors came back from the in-between sets break and put up a hard fight against UNCP.

With the assists from senior Bailee Jones and sophomore Casey O’Quinn, senior hitter Aquia Jones began to make some kills. Skryd and Caesar continued to keep their blocks up, with Heinz cleaning up what fell.

The Braves pulled through the set winning 25-20. The Braves gained this victory as a team, but the leaders of the night consisted of Jones and Skryd with 11 kills each.

Tyndall had 10. Caesar and Skryd had 4 blocks each. Assists were led by Jones with 22 and followed by O’Quinn with 19. Heinz led in digs with 14 and Skryd followed with 11.
