Graham’s Buzzer Beater Secures Women’s Basketball First Road Win

The UNCP women’s basketball team picked up their first road win of the season in a dramatic fashion in a down to the wire bout with the Georgia College Bobcats that took a three pointer from junior guard Tee Graham at the buzzer to secure the 56-55 victory for the Braves on Jan. 12.

The Black and Gold were able to pick up their second victory in the all-time series at the Centennial Center in Milledgeville, GA by forcing the Bobcats into committing 18 turnovers and picked up their first road win in the series since Jan. 4, 2006.

Through the first half of the game the Black and Gold were inconsistent offensively, only scoring seven points in the opening period, but they were able to keep the game close by playing solid defense.

The Bobcats held the lead at 55-53 with eight ticks left on the clock when the Braves were able to get the ball down the court and into the hands of Graham. She proceeded to pull up for and knock down the game winning shot from long distance as the buzzer sounded and her team emerged victorious.

Junior Aliyah Farmer was the leading scorer for the Black and Gold in this contest with 16 points and was able to notch six rebounds as well as a pair of steals and blocks. Graham was the only other Brave to reach double digit points with 13 and she also led the team in steals with a game high of six takeaways.

Although sophomore Melanie Horne is the team’s leading scorer this season she was limited in her offensive production this game by the defense of the Bobcats, she was a force in the paint as seven of her team leading eight boards were defensive rebounds.
