Love Lifts Braves Over Augusta

Senior Forward Se’Dasia Love was an absolute force for the UNCP women’s basketball team, especially with her strong presence in the paint where the Braves dominated from start to finish. The Black and Gold ended a three-game losing streak as they defeated the Augusta University Jaguars on Feb.13 at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

“Se [Love] found the floor and we found her inside against the zone and she finished early. I think that kind of set the tone for the game,” said Head Coach John Haskins.

The Braves avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of the Jags in which they gave the then 1-10 team just their second victory of the season after upsetting a nationally ranked North Georgia team just days prior.

Love scored the first nine points of the game for the Braves and they would not trail for the remainder of the contest. She’d go on to finish with career-high 17 points and came up just shy of just her second career double-double with eight rebounds.

“Just mentally, I was locked in,” said Love. “I’ve been struggling a lot offensively and it just makes me feel good to help my team out,”

As a team the Braves would outscore the Jags 34-14 in the paint and out rebounded them 52-29, nearly doubling the total amount of boards for Augusta. They shot better than 60 percent in both the first and third quarters, which including going 50 percent from behind the arc in the third.

While Love came up just short of a double sophomore Melanie Horne recorded her fourth double-double in the last six games with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Redshirt junior Tee Graham registered he second double-double of the season with 10 points and tied for the team lead in boards with 10, all of which came on the defensive side. Graham also recorded a team-high six assists.

“We have confidence in everyone. If we pas it to anyone else, they can knock down a shot so there’s really no pressure,” said Horne.
