Wrestling Ends Regular Season with 33-12 Win Over Greensboro

Dominance was the theme of the match as the UNCP wrestling team closed out the regular season portion of their schedule with a 33-12 victory on Feb.13 over the Greensboro College Pride and head into the postseason still ranked No.10 in the nation and riding a three-game winning streak.
The Pride would register the first points of the match after a no entry forfeit at the 125 pounds on the part of the Braves, but freshman Ronnie Pietro would follow that up with a smothering 16-0 tech fall at the 133-pound bout to bring the score within one at 6-5.
Sophomore Jonathan Miller suffered a slim 15-13 decision defeat at 141 pounds to put their hosts up 9-5 then senior Kaleb Warner would give the Black and Gold their first lead of the contest with a last second pin in the first period of his match at the 149lbs weight class.
Greensboro would take the lead right back after Tyler Makosy fell in a one-point decision 9-8 at 157 pounds, but that would be the last time the Braves would trail in their regular season finale.
The Black and Gold would go on to win the final five matches of the of the dual that was kicked off by No.2 ranked senior Rodney Shepard’s swift pin at 165lbs in the first period after just 38 seconds ticked off the clock.
Faris Teia would pick up a one-point decision at 174lbs, No.7 ranked Brandon Sloop picked up the team’s third pin of the day in the second period at 184lbs, Marcus Montgomery logged a 15-3 major decision win at 197lbs and Marcus Bell would close it out with a 5-2 decision victory at the heavy weight class.
