Highlights from the Indoor Track Season

The indoor portion of the season for the UNCP track and field team has come to a close and here are some not worthy and record setting performances from their meets and competitions that took place from Jan. 11 to Feb. 17.

Gene Anderson Invitational: Jan.11

Junior Javon Graham tied a 36-year-old program record and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a time of 8.09 seconds in the 60-meter dash. He recorded four NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 60-meter hurdles last season and bested his previous personal best in the event by 0.09 seconds in the preliminary runs. Graham's finish matched All-American Carl Powell time, who posted the same mark in the event during the 1982-83 indoor season.

Wake Forrest Invitational: Jan.19

Graham posted NCAA provisional qualifying finishes in both the preliminaries and finals of the 60-meter hurdles, while the women's 4000-meter Distance Medley Relay team won their event by nine seconds.

Liberty Kickoff: Jan.25/26

The women's 4x800-meter Relay team established a new school record as sophomores Riley Axe, Sam Badami and Corey Pethers came together with freshman Skylar Moreno to register the record-breaking mark of 10:12.67 in the event. Newcomer Britney Chambers set a new program record in the 200-meter dash.

Carolina Challenge: Jan.31/Feb.2

Graham bested the school record that he previously set a month prior on his way to a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, and sophomore Jathan Deberry exceeded his previous career best as he finished in third place in the high jump on day one.

The women's distance Medley Relay team shattered a two-year-old program record by more than 30 seconds, and junior Elijah Woods churned out a school-record point total in the Heptathlon.

JDL DMR Invitational: Feb.15/16

Senior Jonathan Martin came up just short of his personal best time in the 5,000-meter run by .25 seconds on the way to a third-place finish, and the Braves had three throwers register personal-best marks in the shot put.

Junior Leanna Jacobs broke a two-year-old program record in the Weight Throw. Distance runners Matthew Martin and Ean Ormsby both shaved a significant chunks of time off of their personal best marks in the 3,000-meter run.

USC Indoor Open: Feb.16

Freshman Britney Chambers surpassed her own program record in the 200-meter dash by 0.27 seconds better than her previous best mark, and Graham eclipsed his own school record by 0.01 seconds on the way to finishing in sixth place in the open portion of the 60-meter Hurdles.
