Cobras Managed to Slither Past Braves in Extra Innings

UNC Pembroke Baseball team traveled to Hartsville, SC, on Tuesday to battle the Cobras of Coker University. The Braves racked up a total of nine hits for the day which they turned into five runs against the Cobras, but after three extra innings fell short and were defeated 5-6.
The Braves and the Cobras went back and forth both offensively and defensively throughout the whole game. Luke Jackson for the Braves started off with a triple and was able to score in the first inning. The Braves defensive played a major role in the game as they held the Cobras scoreless up until the end of the third inning.
Lybrand and Bruno for the Cobras sparked momentum hitting two RBIs, which led to an additional two runs for the hosting team. Lybrand totaled up two runs for the night against the Braves.
Jackson put out great effort offensively at-bat against the Cobras, bringing in two runs for the Braves while also hitting his first triple for the season. UNCP picked up two additional runs in the 7th inning making it a tie game.
The Cobras won the 8th inning offensively, being able to scavenge two runs against the Braves. Lybrand managed to get on base, advanced, and almost immediately was brought in by Thompson adding four runs against the Braves. The momentum continued, Thompson gained the fifth run against the Braves after being brought in from a double by Hall to left field.
The Braves responded with full smoke against the Cobras, Jackson started off with a double, and immediately following Redshirt Junior Ethan Baucom hit a bomber to left field bringing in Jackson.
The two teams were both held at a standstill with the game being tied 5-5, going into three extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th inning, McCabe hit a triple with one out enabling him to reach third base. The Braves were unable to hold the Cobras to the run, Hall reached first base on a fielder’s choice, bringing in McCabe for the winning run to defeat the Braves.
The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for the Black and Gold who will now head into a run of conference matchups with a chance to improve upon their 4-8 record against Peach Belt competition. They will have a chance to get back at Coker in a few weeks when they host the Cobras on Sammy Cox Field on April.2.
