Mueller Probe Finds No Trump-Russia Collusion

The investigation led by Robert Mueller found no evidence that President Trump or his campaign coordinated with the Russian government’s 2016 election interference, according to a summary of the special counsel’s key findings made by Attorney General William Barr.

Barr released a four-page summary of Robert Mueller’s conclusions of the Russian investigation, which Barr made clear were not meant to be an “exhaustive recounting of the Special Counsel’s investigation or report.”

In that summary, Barr said that the Russia investigation “did not establish” that the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government before the election, but Mueller did not draw a conclusion about whether Trump obstructed justice.

Mueller’s investigation of whether the President committed obstruction of justice did not conclude the President committed a crime, but it also “does not exonerate him,” Barr quoted from Mueller’s report.

President Trump took to Twitter and falsely proclaimed that the findings exonerated him completely. “No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!” he tweeted.

Barr said the Justice Department and the special counsel are “well along in the process of identifying and redacting” sensitive material, including material that “by law cannot be made public,” “material the intelligence community identifies as potentially compromising sensitive sources and methods; material that could affect other ongoing matters, including those that the special counsel has referred to other department offices; and information that would unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties.”

Barr said that he anticipates they “will be in a position to release the report by mid-April, if not sooner,” and will not allow the White House to review it. According to Fox News, a Justice Department official said that the Mueller report is more than 300 pages long.

Though the investigation did not produce evidence of collusion with Russia, Mueller’s team has been involved in indicting 32 people and three Russian companies, according to the Huffington Post. Mueller’s team has secured the indictments of four Trump campaign officials: Paul Manafort, Richard Gates, George Papadopoulos and Michael Flynn all have reached plea deals.

In May 2017, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to serve as special counsel to oversee the federal investigation after Trump fired FBI-Director James Comey and after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any investigations involving the Trump campaign.
