This year, the Meet the Greeks Fall 2020 event was not as festive as UNCP students have come to expect. With the new regulations set in place for Covid-19, the event went virtual on Aug. 12. Instead of meeting all of the fraternities and sororities face-to-face, students could meet them with a video on the Greek Life tab on the UNCP home page. Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Lamar James, and Zeta Tau Alpha’s President Kinsey Land, gave insights into what to expect from this year’s chapters. The members joining this year can still expect the same excitement but in a virtual way.
In an interview with Land about the upcoming year, she said, “New members coming into ZTA can still expect leadership opportunities and involvement.”
James assures that Greek Life will follow the guidelines in the Student Organization Virtual Engagement Guide for all of their events. Students can
still expect Greek Life events that focus on the values honored by Greek Life in the past, such as public service and philanthropy, sisterhood, brotherhood and academics.
Zeta Tau Alpha still plan to have their annual corn hole tournament in September and their annual breast cancer awareness tables in October, all while following the University’s COVID-19 policies. Land said that even though campus life looks different this year, she looks forward to being on campus and recruiting women into ZTA to help grow their College Panhellenic Community.
“This year will be challenging due to the pandemic. However, it’s a great opportunity to carry out the values of the fraternal oath our Greek students have committed to. Leaders thrive in uncertainty, and I look forward to seeing how our students react to the inevitable challenges they will face,” James said. The students can expect fun and safe events from Greek Life, and the first Zeta Tau Alpha’s event will be the cornhole tournament on September 25th.
