On May 15, 2020, an animated series officially made its return to Netflix. Fans watched it during its airing on television during the mid-2000s, "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
The show follows the journey of Aang, a 112-year-old air-bending nomad. Frozen in an iceberg for over 100 years. He is found by two members of the southern water tribe. A water bender named Katara and her older brother Sokka. Aang must accept his destiny as the reincarnated Avatar whose responsibility is to master all four elements: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire to bring peace and balance to the world.
The show originally aired on February 21, 2005. With its storyline, character development, jaw-dropping action, life lessons, and infectious humor, the "Last Airbender" is one of a kind. Even almost 16 years after it aired on TV, a new generation of viewers can access the show on Netflix.
Two Pembroke students, Cameron Hill and Julius Johnson are familiar with the show. “I was certainly pleased. It has been a while since I have seen the series and after watching the Legend of Korra a couple of times it sort of got old. So, being able to watch ‘The Last Airbender’ was refreshing,” said Johnson regarding his excitement of the show being on Netflix. Johnson added that the show taught him various life and constructive lessons and that even if the show did not teach those lessons to him the stories that came from that certainly did.
“'The Last Airbender' was something that I saw as a child and it was a very meaningful series. So, to see that commercially available on Netflix is good news and it's really positive,” said Hill. The show imparted lessons that even as an adult he appreciates the importance of moral and meaningful lessons about being a good person. It also taught about grief, forgiveness, and other mature things.
This show is something that anybody can watch. Not only does it provide action and drama, but also life lessons that will resonate with you while you watch it.
