Student Health Services (SHS) and Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) have been hosting a Health and Wellness WebEx series that is typically on the last Thursday of every month. The next one is on February 25 and the topic will be eating disorders.
“It is an issue that a lot of college students face so we wanted to make it a part series,” said Jaelyn Wynn, Assistant Director of Health Promotion.v The goal of this event is to raise awareness, lessen the stigma, and start a conversation about eating disorders.
Jenny Finlan, Mental Health Counselor, mentioned there are students on campus who visit CAPS because of eating disorders. “As a mental health provider it is one of my areas of interest. Culturally being, females are targeted to meet a certain standard and I like to help students break that standard. White females have the highest because they are trying to fit a standard,” said Finlan.
“We hope people will join us for this important conversation. We are also randomly giving away a prize,” Wynn added.
If a student needs assistance with an eating disorder they should visit Student Health Services or CAPS.
