The Office for Community and Civic Engagement started a series last year called Snacks & Social Justice. The goal of this series is to educate and bring awareness to current events in our society.

Natural Love, Assistant Director for Community Engagement, said “The series started as a way for our office to converse with students, faculty, and community about social issues through a virtual dialogue format.”

There are two ways to experience this series. One way is the pre-recorded podcast through PodBean. The second is the bi-weekly Facebook live discussions. Both are available Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.

Dhyaneshwar Sudhakar, Student Service Leader for Student Engagement, said, “We premiere our podcast at 3:00 p.m. Therefore, students can watch it while it is premiering, and they can also access it anytime as the video is saved to Facebook automatically.”

Episode three of Snacks & Social Justice was titled "Student Life During the Pandemic". The current series is set to end along with the spring semester. There are plans to bring it back in Fall 2021. Love and Sudhakar acknowledged there is a possibility of in-person events. This depends on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is also talk of allowing those who participate to choose the topics that are discussed.

“We are planning to host online polls on our social media pages, where we suggest 3-4 topics and the students, faculty, staff, and community partners can vote on which topic they would like to hear next,” said Sudhakar

Some upcoming discussions within the series are minimum wage, sustainability, and financial policies impact. More information on dates and topics is available through BraveConnect.
