WandaVision Bewitches Fans

WandaVision is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and premiered exclusively on Disney+, taking the world by storm featuring two of the MCU’s most interesting and powerful characters, Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (played by Paul Bettany). Both Wanda and Vision have had a storied history in the Marvel franchise, dating all the way back to their original debut in the comics in the late sixties and early seventies.
In modern times they have become staples of the incredibly popular Avengers films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. However, in those previous installments, while we got a glimpse into their relationships and origins, audiences didn’t get to personally see them develop or grow on their own.
That’s where WandaVision steps in, giving both of these unique characters their own story and time to grow, change and learn, while facing new threats and coming closer together than ever before.
WandaVision is a show about trauma and grief, and the lengths that people, superhuman or otherwise, will go through in order to deal with that pain. This is a surprisingly fresh take in the Marvel Film and TV world, as the show focuses less on action and villainous antics, and more on strengthening its world building, backstories, and interpersonal relationships.
Sophomore Jay Williams, an avid Marvel fan agrees. “The show really showed the mental back and forth she (Wanda) was going through. I love how the show portrayed her relationship with her family and really showed that she'll do anything to be with her loved ones,” said Williams.
The show takes a journey through Wanda’s mind as she alters the reality of the world around her, taking the show through various TV sitcom worlds and television time periods, lending the show to an aurora of mystery and suspense. Senior Katrina Harrison appreciates the characters, especially the inclusion of Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris) and her outgoing character.
“I have loved the Avengers since I saw Infinity War. When I saw WandaVision was out I literally got so excited to see what was going on. I would literally just say, watch it! It’s good,” said Harrison.
WandaVision aired weekly episodes, leading to great twists and turns along the way and fueling numerous fan theories and speculation. Featuring nine episodes, the final episode of the show’s first season aired on Friday, March 5th, giving a solid conclusion to the overall narrative while leaving room for the characters to return stronger than ever in future installments.
